1989-1990
Our first ever coffee table book! After 30 years in the biz we'd come to think it would never happen. This, though, was a particularly highbrow example of the genre. It started off as a portfolio of photographs by Phil Sayer of 100 of the Science Museum's most treasured items, with some bits of text accompanying each one. The text turned out to be as absorbing as the images and contributed greatly to our enjoyment of this publication. Production was a hybrid affair: typesetting in Tyne and Wear, colour separations in Hong Kong, printing in northern Italy; but it worked like a dream.
